Framed. As the daughter of a wealthy family, Kempter did not choose the path expected of a well-to-do wife and mother in the 19th century; instead, through her education, independent work, and determination, she was able to build an independent career as a freelance artist in Munich. Her life exemplifies the early history of women’s emancipation in the late 19th century, achieved in the face of resistance from the existing social order. Between 1889 and 1922, she frequently participated in exhibitions at the Munich Glaspalast. Among other venues, she also exhibited at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition (1891, 1897), the Bremen Art Exhibition (1891), and an exhibition of the Munich Secession (1912). Paintings 1763
