Wall shelf made of carved and openwork wood, partially lacquered in takamaki-e gold with a lotus motif, over which a butterfly inlaid with iridescent mother-of-pearl (raden) flies against a mountainous landscape. The piece is topped by an openwork pediment formed of interlaced patterns. The shelf features a folding mechanism. Japan, late 19th–early 20th century. Height: 60 cm.
