Hermann Göring Autograph Letter Signed to Anthony Fokker, Seeking Reimbursement for Danish Aviation Expenses ALS in German, signed “Oberleutnant Göring,” one page, 8.5 x 11.25, September 23, 1919. Handwritten letter to aviation pioneer Anthony Fokker, in full (translated): "I respectfully ask for the remainder of my account for 2325 Danish Krone (two thousand three hundred and twenty five), addressed to the Fokker Works in Berlin, to be sent at the earliest to my address here. This relates to my expenditure, incurred on behalf of the Fokker Works, during my stay in Denmark. The manager there, Seckatz, has already reported to Amsterdam on the matter, and has told me that I shall now receive the sum, since I need the money urgently here for settling my obligations." In fine condition, with a stain to the right edge. In the immediate aftermath of World War I, Hermann Göring struggled to translate his wartime fame as a fighter ace into a stable civilian career. Like many former German military aviators, he turned to commercial and promotional flying, working with Anthony Fokker’s aircraft interests in Scandinavia at a time when the aviation industry was trying to rebuild under the restrictions and economic dislocation of the postwar period. This letter captures that unsettled phase of Göring’s life, when he was still known principally as an aviator and was dependent on flying work and aviation commissions long before his later rise in German politics.
