A QUEEN ANNE MARITIME PRESENTATION SILVER FOOTED WAITER, 1713 plain circular with reeded border standing on flared foot, engraved in the centre with the marital cypher FMC within a foliate and scroll border and underneath with presentation inscription This Waiter belonged to Captain John Gouger of Ramsgate, Commander of the Ship Eltham through the whole period of his seafaring life. It was presented by the Owners to him in testimony of the high esteem in which he was held as a man of Integrity and Christian Excellency and also for his Nautical ability. He married Mary Small, Granddaughter of Francis and Mary Coxen whose Widow and five Children survived him, he died in August 1809 and was Intered in St Lawrence Churchyard, and further engraved with the initials FCM and inscription Francis & Mary Coxen who were the Great Grandfather & Great Grandmother on the maternal side of George Gouger. The former was born in the year 1677 & Died in the year 1759 Aged 82. The latter was Born in the year 1685 & Died in the year 1748 Aged 63 -- 7in. (17.5cm.) diam.; 2in. (5cm.) high; 413g.
