He went on to become the leading exponent of 3-D pop art, building layered, hand-cut compositions that have served as official artwork for the Super Bowl, Major League Baseball's All-Star Game and the Olympic Games. This early, hand-painted original predates his editioned silkscreens and captures Manhattan in the early 1980s as one exuberant panorama: skaters circle the Rockefeller Center rink beneath the gilded Prometheus, while the Twin Towers, the Statue of Liberty, Cats and Evita on Broadway, a parade balloon over Macy's, the Roosevelt Island tram and the shopfronts of the Lower East Side crowd the scene, many rendered as raised cut-paper elements.
