Date: 1859 Description: A man with a fishing rod and landing net sits alone by a wild river, gazing dreamily at the opposite bank. The river by which he sits appears to be the only open space in the midst of a dense, ancient forest. Behind him and in front of him, gnarled trees rise on either side, lending the image an aura of untouched wilderness.
