Inscribed in the lower middle of the printing plate: “THE FRENCH CONSCRIPTS / Published July 22, 1817, by Edw.d Orme, New Bond Street, London.” Date: 1817 Description: The artwork depicts the forced recruitment of young men by French soldiers in a picturesque village. The dynamic scene has a narrative structure that reflects the conflict between the military and the civilian population.
