RONDAHL (1858–1914), Poet’s Daffodil and Botanical Studies, circa 1885, pencil Emmery Rondahl (1858 Vordingborg–1914 Copenhagen): Poet’s Daffodil and Botanical Studies, c. 1885, pencil Technique: Pencil on paper Date: c. 1885 Description: A beautiful nature study from the sketchbook of the Danish artist Rondahl, showing the blossoms of a poet’s narcissus (Narcissus poeticus) or star narcissus (Narcissus radiiflorus) in detail from various angles. In addition, the drawing depicts flowers resembling buttercups and some leaves. The drawing is part of a series of landscape drawings and studies from excursions in Denmark and Norway that the artist undertook in 1885. On the reverse side, there is discoloration due to dust and light, as well as minor damage to the paper surface in the lower right corner. The edges are partially noticeably bumped and creased. There is a single marginal tear at the top. There is slight damage along the left edge of the sheet, presumably from detaching the page from a book binding.
