"Esquisses faites par le Baron Edmond de Bretenières feudant les voyages en Suisse" (Sketches made by Baron Edmond de Bretenieres during his travels in Switzerland). The drawing shows an idyllic lakeside landscape with a picturesque village on the lake. Large, detailed trees can be seen in the foreground, lining a winding path. A single figure is walking along the path, lending the picture a narrative dimension. A village church with a striking tower rises in the middle ground, surrounded by lush foliage. The composition opens out onto the calm lake, on which two small boats are drifting. The mountains in the background are gently hinted at and create a harmonious depth of space. The light is evenly distributed, emphasized by the clear lines that underscore the natural charm of the landscape.
