A work by the Russian writer, ethnographer, memoirist, traveller and honorary member of the St Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1900) Sergei Vasilyevich Maksimov (1831-1901), explaining various words and expressions of colloquial Russian whose original meanings have been lost to most people. The folklorist’s works were frequently published both during his lifetime and after his death, and are still reprinted in large editions today.
