Provenance: Palais des Beaux-Arts Servants auction, November 9, 1995, sold for €4,869 Gérard Wigmana was an 18th-century Dutch painter. A student of Jelle Sibrands, he traveled to Italy, where he discovered, among other things, the work of Raphael, who became one of his major sources of inspiration. He joined the group known as the Bentvueghels (“band of birds”), an unofficial brotherhood of Flemish and Dutch artists based in Rome from 1620 to 1720.
