[MUSIC]. HAYDN, Joseph. Collection of 18th-century printed music: 21 Prussian quartets. Paris, Sieber Musicien, n.d. (c. 1787) In-4 (35.5 x 26 cm), period half-basane binding with corner pieces. 47 pages of engraved music, 3 title pages. Binding has some wear. An important collection of sheet music from the late 18th century by the Austrian composer Joseph Haydn (1732–1809). In total, 47 pages of engraved music comprising 21 Prussian quartets (dedicated to Frederick William II, King of Prussia), including 6 for bass and 15 for cello. The Quartets, Op. 50, also known as the Prussian Quartets, are a cycle of string quartets by Joseph Haydn, written in 1787 and published that same year simultaneously by Forster in London and by Artaria in Vienna. The scores are published here by Jean-Georges Sieber, a prominent Parisian publisher active between 1770 and 1822, likely around the same time as the London and Vienna editions.
