In-12, speckled brown calfskin, ribbed spine decorated with gilt metal fittings, wheel motifs on the edges, all edges gilt. 4 unnumbered folios (title page, epistle), 276 pp., 275 pp., engraved frontispiece portrait. Corners slightly dented. Fifth edition of these memoirs of the Spanish court in two parts by Marie-Catherine Le Jumel de Barneville, Baroness d’Aulnoy (1652–1706), a prolific woman of letters and pioneer of the fairy tale genre. Her adventures and extraordinary life led her to frequent several European courts. Coat-of-arms ex-libris from the library of the Château des Ormes on the inside front cover. A delightful copy in exceptionally fresh condition.
