TWO POSTERS: 1) FRANCO GENTILINI, GALLERIA METASTASIO, PRATO, OCTOBER 1980. Dimensions: 66 x 95 cm. This original poster for Franco Gentilini’s exhibition, held at the Galleria d’Arte Metastasio in Prato in November 1980, is an important historical and artistic document linked to the final phase of the renowned Faenza-born painter’s career (1909–1981). This poster was printed specifically to promote the exhibition curated by Milena Milani and strongly championed by gallery owner Carlo Palli, who had just opened the historic Prato gallery at that time. It was one of the very last exhibitions held during the artist’s lifetime; he died a few months later, in April 1981. On that occasion, among the various works on textured and sandy backgrounds typical of the artist, the famous 1980 painting “Cathedral with Table” was also exhibited (source: Rome Quadriennale – arbiQ). 2) CITY OF FONDI, JULY 27, 1980: FONDI NATIONAL AWARD – “LA PASTORA” FOR AN UNPUBLISHED THEATER WORK. Dimensions: 70 x 100 cm. Original promotional poster for the Fondi “La Pastora” Theater Award, which was founded in 1974 on the initiative of the renowned painter and intellectual Domenico Purificato, together with other prominent figures such as Domenico Rea and Elsa De Giorgi. Created with the specific goal of discovering and promoting unpublished contemporary Italian drama, the award has served as a key hub for playwrights, directors, and theater actors for over thirty years. This 1980 poster dates from the award’s early golden years, when the judging panel and the final award ceremonies regularly featured the most influential figures in Italian criticism and the performing arts. The 1980 edition is historically significant. That year, the renowned writer and artist Milena Milani (the only woman to sign Lucio Fontana’s first Manifesto of Spatialism) won the prize for an unpublished work with her play “Limbania” (source: Historical Archive of the Fondi La Pastora Prize).
