327 - A POSTER AND A FLYER: 1) FRANCO GENTILINI, METASTASIO GALLERY, PRATO, OCTOBER 1980. Dimensions: 66 x 95 cm. This original poster for Franco Gentilini’s exhibition, held at the Metastasio Art Gallery in Prato in November 1980, is an important historical and artistic document linked to the final phase of the renowned Faenza-born painter’s career (1909–1981). This poster was printed specifically to promote the exhibition curated by Milena Milani and strongly championed by gallery owner Carlo Palli, who opened the historic Prato gallery at that very time. It was one of the very last exhibitions held during the artist’s lifetime; he died a few months later, in April 1981. On that occasion, among the various works on textured and sandy backgrounds typical of the artist, the famous 1980 painting “Cathedral with Table” was also exhibited (source: Rome Quadriennale – arbiQ). 2) FRANCO GENTILINI: DRAWINGS, TEMPERA PAINTINGS, AND A SCULPTURE—OCTOBER 14–NOVEMBER 15, 1982, ADA ZUNINO ART GALLERY, MILAN. Dimensions: 40 x 60 cm. The exhibition, which took place from October 14 to November 15, 1982, took on a partly commemorative and retrospective character, having been organized approximately one year after the artist’s death (he died in April 1981). The Ada Zunino Art Gallery in Milan (named after the prominent Italian gallerist and sculptor, a leading figure in late 20th-century art) was one of the most important venues for emerging artists between the late 1970s and the late 1990s (source: “Ada Zunino: The First Lady of Italian Sculpture, A Life Dedicated to Art,” April 1, 2015, article by Maria Ester Nichele).
