74 - KIM NOVAK AND JEFF CHANDLER

KIM NOVAK AND JEFF CHANDLER During the filming of George Sidney’s movie “Jeanne Eagels” (One Love), 1957. Photograph, vintage silver print, credits below the image and annotated on the back. 25.7 x 20.4 cm including borders. Note: Kim Novak plays Jeanne Eagels, an American actress who became a major Broadway star in the 1920s, notably thanks to her role as Sadie Thompson in the play *Rain*. Jeff Chandler plays Sal Satori, a carnival manager and lover abandoned by a heroine entirely consumed by her ambition. The film chronicles her rise to fame, followed by her decline, marked by alcoholism and drug addiction. This biopic, however, is highly fictionalized and takes significant liberties with the life of Jeanne Eagels, who died in 1929. For Kim Novak, then at the height of her popularity, this dramatic role marked one of her first films built entirely around her character.
