A delightful early 20th-century photo album inspired by Japanese design. An oblong quarto-sized album, with covers lacquered with a butterfly and a flowering branch; the back cover rests on four glide feet, while the front cover features a sea design accented with gold and red, inlaid in relief with ships made of mother-of-pearl and bone. The spine features faux raised bands in red-gilded shagreen with small metal fittings. The interior of the album consists of 9 pages mounted on double-sided tabs and lined with silk decorated with painted scenes of Mount Fuji, flowering branches, lakeside landscapes, cranes, and Japanese farmhouses. 6 × 36 × 28 cm. (A few small tears in the silk, a few minor imperfections, a small tear on the front cover, minor signs of wear, and foxing)
