Tomi Ungerer, "Siegwerk ebnet Ihnen den Weg zum besseren Druckergebnis", rainbow and steamroller (1931 Strasbourg – 2019 Cork), colour offset/paper, signed lower right, numbered lower left 182/300, titled on the reverse in another hand, made in collaboration with the Siegwerk ink factory, large rainbow whose foot runs under a black steamroller with driver and continues behind it as a flat band of colour to a house inscribed "DRUCKEREI", in the foreground two hares in the grass, in the background hills and blue mountains, good condition, image 22.5x21 cm (HxW), passe-partout, glazed, framed, blue-green frame, frame rubbed in places, overall 52x42 cm (HxW) Tomi Ungerer (1931 to 2019) came from Strasbourg; as a draughtsman and illustrator he left more than 140 books, translated into more than 28 languages. During his New York years from 1956 to 1971 he worked as a commercial artist for clients such as Pepsi-Cola, TWA and the New York Times and designed film posters for Stanley Kubrick and Otto Preminger. He also designed advertising motifs for the Siegwerk ink factory in Siegburg. The company goes back to a calico printing works founded in Cologne in 1830, which moved to Siegburg in 1840 and from 1936 traded as Siegwerk Farbenfabrik Keller, Dr. Rung und Co.; the family business still makes printing inks and varnishes today.
