Martin Wirth, "Begegnung am Wegesrand", hatted fantasy figure, Oisternig, Gailtal, Carinthia, 1990 (1939 – 2017 Ilsenburg), watercolour over pencil on card, signed and dated (19)90 lower right, titled verso "Begegnung am Wegesrand", inscribed "Oisternig im Gailtal" and "Ankunft in St. Paul im 'Karnischen Hof'" as well as "Aquarell Martin Wirth", to the left a horse-like fantasy figure with a hat, open mouth and thin, branch-like legs beside a shrub, to the right green hills with conifers and shrubs, behind blue mountain ridges under a pale sky, good condition commensurate with age, slightly creased, image 36x48 cm (HxW) The Oisternig is a 2,052 m border mountain in the eastern main ridge of the Carnic Alps between the Carinthian Gailtal and the Italian Val Canale. From Feistritz an der Gail an alpine road of around nine kilometres leads to the Feistritzer Alm, the starting point for the ascent, and from the summit the view reaches the Julian Alps and the Gailtal Alps. The Karnischer Hof in St. Paul im Gailtal is a family hotel with some 250 years of tradition. Alongside landscapes, forest spirits and trolls also belong to the pictorial world of the realist Martin Wirth (d. 2017) from Darlingerode (today part of Ilsenburg).
