In the early 1970s the seawater lido Lago Martiánez was created to designs by César Manrique. On a rocky rise at the eastern end of the bay stands the Ermita de San Telmo, rebuilt in 1780 at the instigation of the seafarers' guild; its bell gable, Spanish espadaña, carries a bell, and since 1968 the German-speaking congregation has held services there. Wirth, an art teacher based in the Harz, used holidays such as this one to the Canary Islands for his drawings.
