Reclining Female Nude with Knee Sock, Erotic Painting in Ornate Frame, 2nd Half 20th Century Oil on wood panel, indistinctly signed lower left, 2nd half 20th century, reclining female nude in side view on a brown-ochre, fur-like painted couch, head turned towards the viewer, long dark brown hair, a blue cushion, a blue cloth around the waist, a grey knee sock on the bent leg, on the left a turquoise-blue wall surface, on the right dark ground, good age-appropriate condition, small paint losses, image 30x40.5 cm (HxW), framed in a gold-coloured ornate frame with relief rocailles and bead moulding, frame slightly chipped, frame width 6.5 cm The reclining nude seen from behind goes back to models such as Velázquez's "Rokeby Venus" (circa 1650), which shows the goddess on a bed with her back to the viewer, and Boucher's "Resting Girl" (1751/52) lying on her front. In the 20th century pin-up painting with Gil Elvgren, Alberto Vargas and George Petty continued pictures of women in lingerie as full-length figures in oil on canvas or board; this reclining nude with knee sock stands as a boudoir picture between nude painting and erotic painting.
