Typical of northern Germany, Scandinavia and the Netherlands, it is steeply pitched at more than 45 degrees and projects far beyond the walls at the eaves so that the water drips off freely. The design of the ridge differs from region to region: heather, turf or clay tiles, in Scandinavia and in the Kappeln and Flensburg area also hung oak timbers.
