Omega Seamaster "Jumbo" gentleman's wristwatch, stainless steel, tonneau case, blue dial, circa 1970 Stainless steel, top brushed, flanks polished. Omega Seamaster gentleman's wristwatch, reference 166.087, with tonneau case and fluted crown at 3 o'clock. Blue, vertically brushed dial with applied Omega symbol, inscribed "OMEGA", "AUTOMATIC", "Seamaster" and "SWISS MADE", silver-coloured minute track ring, applied silver-coloured baton indices with luminous inlays, framed date window at 3 o'clock. Baton hands, black on the inside, silver-coloured on the outside with luminous inlays, and light blue centre seconds hand. Automatic movement, calibre 1001 according to the enclosed movement note, movement not inspected. The screw-down case back with seahorse medallion in relief and "SEAMASTER". Blue Morellato leather strap with tang buckle, strap not original. In the red Omega box, together with a watch glass and a crown. Watch in good condition commensurate with age with light signs of wear. Watch running. 40x11 mm (WxH), strap length 23 cm. The Seamaster is the model line introduced by Omega in 1948. Since 1957 it has carried the seahorse (Hippocampus) as an emblem on the case back, designed by the Omega engraver Jean-Pierre Borle after a Venetian model. Reference 166.087 was built from around 1969 to 1971; because of its tonneau case, large for the period, this vintage gentleman's watch is referred to in the trade and by collectors as the Seamaster "Jumbo". An automatic watch such as this one winds its movement itself via a rotor while being worn; in the Seamaster models of around 1970 Omega used the 1000 series introduced in 1969, automatic movements with integrated winding, central rotor, quick-set date, hacking seconds and 28,800 vibrations per hour. From 1972 the successor calibres 1010 and 1020 followed.
