Hermès Paris, silk tie with ring pattern, white chain links on a dark blue ground, with box Silk, men's tie by Hermès Paris, on the back at the narrow end the Hermès logo "HERMÈS PARIS ©" with carriage motif and printed "MADE IN FRANCE", "59 EA", "100 % SOIE", inside dark blue woven label "DRY CLEAN ONLY" and "100% SILK" with carriage motif, ring pattern of white interlocking chain links on a dark blue ground, tip lined in dark blue, with orange original box, lid inscribed "HERMÈS PARIS" with carriage motif, good condition commensurate with age. The foundation of the house was laid by Thierry Hermès (1801–1878), who began in Paris in 1837 as a maker of horse harness. The first Hermès ties were made in 1949; according to tradition, gentlemen who were refused entry to the casino in Cannes because of their clothing sought a suitable tie in the neighbouring Hermès shop. The printed ties of the house are made of light silk twill, which has been patterned by screen printing in Lyon since 1937. Geometric patterns such as chains and rings belong, alongside animal and horse motifs, to the established repertoire of Hermès designer ties.
