Riddertinn Ø. Ruud, pewter candleholder with scrolled handle, hammered texture, Norway, 1973 Pewter, candleholder, also chamberstick, Riddertinn, designed by Ø. Ruud, Norway, round stamp underneath "RIDDERTINN Ø.RUUD HÅNDARBEID", dated "1973" and inscribed "PAT. NR. 87042", with English-language stamps, low round box-shaped foot with flat top as drip tray, in the centre a recessed drip pan with candle socket, strap handle at the side scrolled at the upper end, all surfaces with net-like hammered texture, the edges with scale-like overlapping rolled rims, drip pan smooth inside, good condition commensurate with age, 10x21.5x17 cm (HxLxW). Riddertinn, Norwegian for knight's pewter, is a series of handmade pewter objects after designs by Ø. Ruud. Its patented surface pattern it shares with the Perletinn series of Oslo Metallvarefabrikk, which was founded in Oslo in 1936, had its heyday in the early 1970s and moved its production to Ål in 1974. A Riddertinn dish presented in 1970 as a gift for the 75th anniversary of Trengereid Fabrikker is today in the Museumssenteret i Hordaland.
