Incense smoker, standing pipe smoker with hat and long pipe, painted wood Wood, painted, incense smoker in the form of a standing pipe smoker. Brown hat with metal brim, painted moustache, mouth opening, long dark brown pipe resting against the hand stump; green jacket with red button dots, light bib with red lines, brown trousers, grey stockings and ochre shoes, on a round green base. Condition commensurate with age, rubbed, break at the feet glued, metal hat brim slightly chipped with flaking, holder for incense cone missing. H. 28 cm. 360-degree photo available on our website. The incense smoker, in the Erzgebirge dialect Raachermannel, is a two-part wooden figure on whose lower part an incense cone burns; the hollowed upper body guides the smoke upwards, where it escapes from the open mouth. As a figure type, the incense smoker was first mentioned circa 1830 and belongs to the customs of the Christmas season. Traditionally, trades are depicted, such as foresters, pedlars or miners.
