Bottle vase with abstract floral decor in grey-black and orange-red, ceramic, impressed mark Ceramic, cream-white matt glazed, bottle vase, impressed mark low on the wall, tall cylindrical body, stepped shoulder, narrow neck and rolled lip, decor of grey-black oval brush dabs in groups and orange-red strokes as abstract flowers with stems, unglazed foot ring, in good condition commensurate with age, rubbed in places, H. 25.5 cm. 360-degree photo available on our website. The bottle vase with cylindrical body and narrow neck is one of the basic forms of 20th-century studio pottery, whose pieces are marked on the base or wall with impressed marks or incised signatures of the workshop. The decor of dabs and strokes set with a few brushstrokes stands in the tradition of East Asian-influenced studio pottery, as cultivated in Japan by the Mingei movement around Hamada Shōji with iron-rich brush painting on a pale glaze. As art pottery, the bottle vase with brush decor belongs to this studio pottery.
