KPM Berlin Coffee Service for Six, Apricot Ground with Gold Decoration, 21 Pieces Porcelain, decorated in apricot and gilt, glazed. Coffee service for six by the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin, comprising a coffee pot with cover, a sugar box with cover, a milk jug and six three-piece place settings of cup, saucer and cake plate, 21 pieces in all. The pot cylindrical with a slender, raised spout, a straight strap handle and a flat disc cover with a knop; the cups conical with ear handles; the plates flat with a broad rim. Walls and rims with a broad apricot ground, reserved in white at the edge and towards the well, accompanied by gold lines and a border of stylised rectangular motifs in gold. On the bases the underglaze blue sceptre mark and the orb. Good condition. Cup h. 7 cm, pot h. 16 cm. The Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin has used the sceptre from the electoral Brandenburg coat of arms as its factory mark since 1763. The orb was added in 1832 as a decorators' mark; its colour indicates the type of decoration, red for flower painting, green for decoration without flower painting such as gold and platinum rims, blue for underglaze decoration. From 1870 to 1992 the lettering KPM stood beneath it, after which it was dropped.
