Sitzendorf large striding lion, naturalistically decorated, Thuringia Porcelain, naturalistically decorated, glazed. Large animal sculpture by the Sitzendorf porcelain manufactory in the form of a striding lion on a naturalistically designed, rocky-grassy base. The lion is modelled in warm brown natural colouring with a finely worked mane. On the base the blue Sitzendorf mark (crown over an entwined S). Age-appropriate condition, the glaze crazed, colour abrasion. H. 28 cm, w. 30 cm, d. 13 cm. The Sitzendorf porcelain manufactory (Thuringia, re-established 1850) is known for its finely modelled figural and animal porcelain. Large, naturalistically decorated animal sculptures such as this striding lion belong to the manufactory's ambitious decorative repertoire. An effective collector's and decorative piece for lovers of Thuringian porcelain art.
