Märklin H0 2880 steam locomotive "TRISTAN" with tender from "Der König-Ludwig-Zug", original box Märklin H0 gauge, article number 2880, tender locomotive from the series "Der König-Ludwig-Zug", boiler dark green with gold-coloured boiler bands, smokebox and chimney black, silver-coloured valve gear, name plate "TRISTAN" on the boiler, cab inscribed "BVI", tender with coal load and inscribed "K.Bay.Sts.B.", in original box 2880. Display base and showcase missing. The piece of track shown is for presentation only. The absence of smaller, delicate detail parts cannot be entirely ruled out. The locomotive has been tested and works. Box with water stains and rubbed in places. The Märklin company was founded in 1859 by Theodor Friedrich Wilhelm Märklin and is based in Göppingen; Märklin introduced H0 gauge at a scale of 1:87 in 1935. With "Der König-Ludwig-Zug", Märklin reproduces the royal train of King Ludwig II of Bavaria as a model railway; besides the steam locomotive, the four-part train includes a main saloon car and an observation terrace car, among others. The prototype of the locomotive is the Bavarian B VI, a development of the B V, of which 107 engines with tender were built. Of the historic royal train, the two so-called Ludwig cars have survived and are displayed today at the Nuremberg Transport Museum.
