Märklin RES 800 Electric Locomotive SBB Re 4/4, Gauge H0, 1953 Gauge H0 electric locomotive by Märklin, model RES 800 after the prototype of the Re 4/4 of the Swiss Federal Railways. Die-cast zinc body, painted green with a silver-coloured roof, on the long sides the raised lettering "SBB CFF" with running number. Four axles with bogie side frames, two scissor-type pantographs on the roof with red-painted roof cabling and mounted insulators, ventilation grilles and applied grab rails at the sides, lamps and coupling hooks at both ends. Played with, showing signs of age. Restored according to the consignor's collection index. The function of the locomotive has been tested and is given. The absence of smaller, delicate add-on parts cannot be entirely ruled out. The piece of track shown serves for presentation only. 360-degree photo on our website. With the Swiss Re 4/4 (RE 800) presented in 1950 Märklin built the first bogie locomotive in its range; the transversely mounted motor drove all axles via shafts and worm gears, a design that became the standard in model railway construction decades later. As the construction proved too elaborate, Märklin shortly afterwards changed the locomotive over to the simpler E 44 chassis as the RES 800. The prototype, the Re 4/4 I, was built from 1946 for the light express train services of the SBB. The present piece is the RES 800 with the running number 427 in the version of 1953, in which the model received type 6 pantographs and traction tyres (Koll's Kompaktkatalog Märklin 00/H0, 1983, RES 800, variant 2). From 1954 it was followed by the RET 800 (no. 3014). Recorded in the consignor's collection index since 1982.
