Sturmabteilung service dagger with scabbard and group mark “Fr”, early production 1933 to 1935 Service dagger of the Sturmabteilung with double-edged blade tapering evenly to the point, with flat central ridge; the motto is no longer present. Upper crossguard and pommel of nickel, the lower crossguard with yellowish tarnish, on its reverse the stamped group mark “Fr” for the Gruppe Franken. The waisted grip of brown wood bears an applied eagle with outspread wings, the national emblem denazified. With the matching sheet-metal scabbard with throat and suspension ring, probably reworked at some point; the chape is missing. The grip is damaged. Age-appropriate condition, the blade heavily ground on both sides, stained and pitted, the tip rounded, the scabbard heavily corroded, largely without paint and perforated near the tip. L. 36.5 cm, blade length 20.5 cm Service daggers of the SA were made from 1933 by Solingen cutlery manufacturers and worn as part of the uniform. Only the early productions of the years 1933 to 1935 bear a stamped group mark on the reverse of the lower crossguard, which assigns the dagger to one of the regional SA groups; “Fr” stands for the Gruppe Franken. After that they were replaced by the maker codes of the Reichszeugmeisterei. The fittings of the early pieces are of solid nickel silver, those of the later ones of nickel-plated zinc.
