The Casque Adrian model 1915 was the first steel helmet introduced as standard issue in the French Army in the First World War; it was issued to front-line troops from 1915 and remained in use in many armies until the 1930s. The badge on the front identifies the branch of service, here the medical service. By decree of 18 December 1918, every officer and soldier who had served in the Great War was granted his helmet as a memento, fitted with a plaque bearing the name and rank of the wearer and the designation as a soldier of the Great War; relatives of the fallen could apply for the helmet. The canteen corresponds to the French model 1877 (bidon), the standard canteen of the French Army in the First World War.
