The red regimental number on the helmet cover refers to the 9th Baden Infantry Regiment No. 170, raised in 1897, garrisoned in Offenburg from 1898 with its III Battalion in Donaueschingen, and part of the XIV Army Corps. During the First World War the regiment fought on the Western Front, among others in the Battle of the Marne, in Flanders, on the Somme and on the Aisne, returned to Offenburg in November 1918 and was disbanded in 1919. The place of printing, Ötzsch near Leipzig, is the village of Oetzsch south of Leipzig, which was united with Markkleeberg in 1915 and is today a district of the town of Markkleeberg.
