An author-edited reprint of the “Historical-Revolutionary Almanac” (1907)—a calendar of memorable dates from the First Russian Revolution (1905–1907)—which had been destroyed by the censors. The collection was compiled and published by the publisher and publicist Vladimir Lvovich Burtsev (1862–1942). Alongside accounts of important events of the 1905 Revolution, the publication includes the texts of the most significant proclamations and speeches. “This edition of the ‘Calendar’ can be called the first only because the Russian reader will indeed be holding it in their hands for the very first time. But with equal justification, it could also be called the second, because although it was printed in 1907, the entire print run was seized by the tsarist government on the very day it was completed, and not a single copy went on sale at that time. Only later did we manage, through special subterfuges, to snatch several copies of the “Calendar” from the hands of the security forces, and it is from one of these copies that we are reprinting the present edition. /…/ In reprinting the “Calendar of the Russian Revolution,” we are limiting ourselves to an exact reproduction of it as it was published ten years ago. We are making no changes to it and adding nothing...” V.L. Burtsev
