A curator at the Louvre and fervent defender of Napoleon III, Count Horace de Viel-Castel described in these Memoirs the political life and society of the Second Empire. His highly authentic account is strongly marked by the animosity he displayed toward his adversaries, among whom were Prince Napoleon and Victor Hugo. Formerly in the collection of Jean LARTEGUY, from the estate of Mrs. L.
