(R) A GROUP OF SEVEN YIXING MINIATURE TEA POTS, CHINA, 19TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 4 cm to 6,5 cm Weight: 261 grams All A lively group of seven miniature reddish-brown stoneware teapots, each conceived in a different shape. Rounded and double-gourd bodies alternate with flattened forms and playful sculptural variations, including a vessel with a bird-like silhouette. Some surfaces are left smooth, while others carry closely worked textures, incised decoration or small applied details. Short spouts, loop handles and fitted covers give each tiny vessel the essential elements of a full-sized teapot. Yixing stoneware is closely associated with Chinese tea culture and with the appreciation of unglazed clay, proportion and the tactile qualities of small vessels. Miniature versions extend that tradition into the realm of objects for handling, collecting and display. Viewed together, these seven pieces form a study in variation: the shared warm clay colour unites them, while their contrasting profiles and surface treatments demonstrate the expressive possibilities of the teapot form.
