(R) A LARGE BLUE AND WHITE "SHOU" VASE, CHINA, QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 42 cm Wide 22 cm Depth 22 cm Weight: 5,1 Kilograms An imposing nineteenth-century Chinese Qing-dynasty blue-and-white porcelain vase of baluster form, decorated with an expansive shou character symbolising longevity. The vessel rises through a rounded shoulder to a waisted neck and everted rim, with paired pierced handles providing an architectural accent. Bold cobalt-blue floral scrolls, lotus borders and finely organised geometric motifs surround the central emblem, creating a rich contrast against the white porcelain ground. The shou character is among the most enduring auspicious symbols in Chinese art, communicating wishes for a long and prosperous life. The substantial proportions and vigorous blue-and-white decoration give this vase a powerful decorative presence.
