423 - A SMALL PORCELAIN DOG CHINESE REPUBLIC

A SMALL PORCELAIN DOG CHINESE REPUBLIC Dimensions: Height 11,5 cm Wide 8 cm Depth 9 cm Weight: 250 grams A charming small Chinese Republic-period porcelain figure of a seated dog, rendered with a strong rounded body, drooping ears and a gently inquisitive expression. The forepaws extend firmly before the chest while fine incised lines model the long hair and characteristic folds of the animal's coat. The warm reddish-brown surface brings out the closely worked details of the muzzle, eyes and textured fur, giving the little figure remarkable personality. Animal sculptures were a popular subject in Chinese decorative arts, where expressive character and lively natural observation often took precedence over formal monumentality. This appealing porcelain dog makes an engaging cabinet object, distinguished by its affectionate pose and carefully textured surface.
