(R) A COMPOSITION OF BRONZE BUDDHA HEADS AND HAND, THAILAND, AYUTTHAYA PERIOD Dimensions: Height 23 cm Wide 28 Depth 8 cm Box , Head 14 cm approx. Weight: 1531 grams Four sculptural fragments are arranged against a dark ground within a rectangular glazed display frame: a large central Buddha head, two smaller heads and a detached hand below. The central face is serenely lowered beneath tightly modelled hair curls and a tall pointed finial. The smaller heads, set on either side, vary in profile and surface tone, while the elongated fingers of the hand form a quiet horizontal counterpoint to the vertical arrangement. The ensemble brings together features familiar from Thai Buddhist sculpture, particularly the refined facial expressions, elongated ears and flame-like cranial ornaments. Displaying the fragments together invites comparison of their differing scales and styles and emphasises how strongly a Buddha image can communicate spiritual stillness even when only part of the original sculpture survives. The surfaces range from brown to greenish tones and show visible wear. For lots marked with (R), a 19% VAT is added to the combined hammer price and commission.
