STANDING BRONZE DURGA INDIA 18TH CENTUY Dimensions: Height 7,5 cm Wide 5,5 cm Depth 3 cm Weight: 181 grams A compact and highly animated bronze Durga shown in a forceful multi-armed stance above a vanquished figure. One leg is planted firmly while the other bends across the composition, and the many arms create a dense web of weapons, attributes and gestures around the body. A long weapon cuts diagonally across the front, giving the small sculpture a strong sense of movement and action. Durga embodies divine power in its protective and martial form. Her multiple arms allow her to wield several weapons simultaneously, making visible a capacity beyond ordinary human limits. At only seven and a half centimetres high, the bronze compresses an entire sacred narrative into a remarkably energetic silhouette. The warm golden-brown surface is darker in the recesses, further sharpening the layered modelling.
