(R) THREE CHINESE STOENWARE STORAGE JARS, MING DYNASTY, 14TH - 17TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 9 cm Wide 12 Approximately each Weight: 981 grams A group of three squat storage jars, each with a rounded shoulder, short upright neck and thickened circular mouth. The vessels are closely related in form but differ in their surface colours, from warm chocolate brown to dark grey-brown, with pale unglazed areas exposed around the feet. Their gently irregular profiles and unevenly mottled surfaces lend the group a direct, utilitarian character. Small storage jars such as these belong to a long tradition of practical Chinese ceramics, in which durable forms and restrained glazes served everyday needs. The simple shape allows the varied firing effects and traces of handling to become the principal visual interest. For lots marked with (R), a 19% VAT is added to the combined hammer price and commission. This VAT is waived for: - Private buyers outside the EU who officially export the items.- Businesses inside the EU holding a valid VAT number, exporting to their home country.
