A PAINTING WITH ELEGANT LADIES - WU YOU RU (CIRCA 1840-1893), CHINA Dimensions: 152 cm x 34 cm A hanging scroll in ink and light colour on paper, depicting two elegant women in a secluded landscape beneath trees and rocky outcrops. Fine linear drawing defines the figures and their garments, while restrained washes create a softer atmospheric setting around them. The vertical inscription and red seals provide a formal counterweight to the delicately arranged figures. The composition combines narrative intimacy with the conventions of literati presentation: the women are carefully observed, yet the surrounding landscape remains light and suggestive.
