Based on a work by Jean-Michel FOLON (1934–2005). Cardboard cover of the portfolio “Je vous écris,” 1985–1986, Éditions du Lac, containing 3 unpaired silkscreen prints: - “Le chemin,” color silkscreen on paper, signed lower right and numbered 85/200. 78.5 x 86.5 cm. - “Je vous écris de Chine,” color silkscreen on paper, signed lower right and numbered 25/32 lower left. 79 x 88 cm. - “Route de nuit,” color silkscreen on paper, signed lower right and numbered 138/200 lower left. 79 x 87 cm. (Not collated; some prints are missing; mismatched set; signs of wear) Description: Born in Uccle, near Brussels, in 1934, Jean-Michel Folon studied architecture at the Institut Saint-Luc, then moved to the Paris area in 1955. His drawings first appeared in the press, primarily in the United States, before a first exhibition of watercolors in New York in 1969 launched his career as a painter. Winner of the Grand Prize for Painting at the São Paulo Biennial in 1973, he worked in watercolor, printmaking, silkscreen, and later sculpture. A friend of graphic designer Milton Glaser and Giorgio Soavi—who produced his first posters for Olivetti—he illustrated works by Franz Kafka, Ray Bradbury, Jorge Luis Borges, and Albert Camus, and designed the poster for Woody Allen’s *The Purple Rose of Cairo*. His hat-wearing figures, horizons, and gradated skies find a particularly suited medium in silkscreen printing. This eclectic collection, presented as described by the artist, is part of the portfolio *Je vous écris*. The Folon Foundation, at the Château de La Hulpe, holds the bulk of his work.
