438 - Affiche Ancienne Original antique World War One poster - Territoriaux de France / Territorials of France - featuring an illustration of soldiers shovelling snow and another group sitting under the trees, the text below reads in French - Wherever they are, in the trenches or in the cantonment, at work or at rest, in pain or in well-being, what fills their mind and their heart, what sustains them, is the image of the old that they left there, the image of the woman and children. For them, war is not an adventure, a dangerous and exhilarating game, a sport more exciting than the others. They do not do it as seekers of emotion or glory. it is an austere, imperative, inescapable necessity, the necessity, having founded a family, to defend it. while fighting, they think first of their sons and their companions, as the Marseilles woman says, of their home, and of those it shelters. this is their war goal, this is what helps them to live the harsh life of the front and, when necessary, to die.
