262 - Affiche Ancienne Original vintage travel poster - National Parks Our Heritage - Carew Castle, seen here in a water-colour by Paul Sandby (1725-1809), stands at the head of a tidal creek of Milford Haven in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Carew Castle is a castle in the civil parish of Carew in Pembrokeshire, Wales. The Carew family take their name from this site and have owned the castle for more than 900 years. It is leased to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park for administration purposes. This lovely setting remains unspoiled to this day. The castle was probably founded by the Norman, Gerald de Windsor, Constable of Pembroke, but the present building is mostly late thirteenth century built by Sir Nicholas de Carew. The north front with its mullioned windows was reconstructed in Elizabethan times. The ten National Parks of England and Wales have been established to keep unspoiled such beautiful landscapes so that, whatever changes in our way of life the years may bring, we and our heirs may continue to enjoy our heritage of natural beauty.
