STERLE Paris - UNIVERSAL GENEVE, 1960s–1970s Secret pocket watch in 750‰ yellow and white gold with a textured basket-weave pattern; the twisted bezel and push button are accented with 8/8-cut diamonds. Equipped with a hinge, it opens to reveal a round folding case with a clipped back (15 mm), a plain silvered dial with a “clou de Paris” pattern, a chiseled, graduated bezel topped with a “XII,” and a hand-wound mechanical movement signed UNIVERSAL GENEVE (caliber 106U). Signed “STERLE PARIS” and numbered “3881.” French craftsmanship, diamond-shaped hallmark of the Pierre BRUN workshop. Case back marked “DEPOSE / Ets WORMS / PARIS.” Dimensions: 3.4 x 3.2 x 1 cm. Gross weight: 24.4 g. Secret watches enjoyed particular popularity in the 1950s. Our pocket watch follows in this tradition, with exquisite refinement. Its ingenious mechanism was developed by Maurice Worms. A watchmaker and jeweler in Paris, he registered this model in 1954 (No. 50333).Available in a variety of finishes, some of which called upon the talents and expertise of other workshops—such as Brun’s, which is particularly renowned for its work in gold braiding and basket weaving— our watch was produced by French and international jewelry houses, such as Sterlé and Tiffany & Co. These watches also serve as a bridge between the worlds of jewelry and watchmaking, drawing on the expertise of leading watchmaking houses such as Universal Genève.
