English table clock with quarter-hour chime, in black-stained wood and gilded metal, late 19th century A late 19th-century English ebonized quarter-hour chiming table clock with gilt-metal mounts Robert Rolfe, 5, Gloucester Street, Clerkenwell, London The bell top features swag mounts and urn finials above substantial cast side handles, mask soundfrets backed in red silk, corner term mounts, and a stepped base on fancy scroll feet. The arched 8-inch dial features subsidiary dials for regulation and strike/silent settings above the Roman chapter ring, with a finely matted center bearing an applied shield-shaped signature cartouche. The substantial triple-chain fusee movement with anchor escapement strikes the hours on a blued steel coiled gong and chimes the quarters on a set of eight bells and hammers.
