He focused on popular traditions and legends, preserving original Armenian, Greek, and Turkish oral material with their translations. This is his main work, an invaluable testimony to the multinational society of the Levant on the eve of its collapse. Following the Armenian persecutions, he fled to France. A rare and important account on oral traditions and folklore of the Levant.
