His journey was not merely for leisure; it was a high-stakes geopolitical survey. Traveling at a time of extreme tension following the Armenian massacres of the mid-1890s, Warkworth was one of the few British officials to provide a firsthand, detailed account of the Eastern Provinces.His diary covers some of the most remote and dangerous terrain of Anatolia.A very valuable source for the Hellenism of Pontos, as he toured extensively from Samsoun to Trebizond and beyond following unbeaten tracks.
